Yet Another Thank You

Needing yet another thank you card. I guess that means I have lots to be thankful for. And I can't argue with that!

I always struggle when I have to make a masculine card. No frills, no flowers, no flourishes. At least I got a fun brad on the card.

I have been really inspired lately to make wall art...so maybe I'll be back soon with some dimensional goody.

MFT Wednesday Sketch Club

2011 is a relief and more than welcome. 2010 can be behind me now. It is easy for me to look back now and see that my world stopped on March 10, 2010. And I allowed it. I lost my father in January - but my world continued. I lost a dear friend in February - and my world continued. My best friend died on March 10th and part of me went with her. A large part. I suppose I could have gotten that part of me back and moved on - but I didn't.

From that date forward, I stopped being. I didn't stop being happy or sad or busy or industrious. I just stopped being. And I chose that. I certainly didn't choose the loss. But I chose to be lost.

I had many happy times while I was lost. Caleb was a total joy. Izzy charmed me the way she does all of us. River made me proud over and over. Randall and I continued our love affair. My children were my treasure. I had good days at work. I had fun times with friends. But most of me was gone. GONE. Any happy time was followed by guilt over not being sad. And truly - I was sad more than I had moments of happiness.

I have grieved. I will continue to grieve. I miss Susan so much that it is still physically painful. I cry often. But in honor of our friendship - cut short here on earth - I will choose to be brave this year. To push forward. To be there for the happy times. Really there. I won't feel guilty for continuing to live even though I don't understand why she is not here with me. I will be brave.

I reread what I said at Susan's memorial service. I think it is valuable for me. And so I am posting it here. I am being brave.

My name is Susie Cannon Moore. Susan was more than a friend to me.

Susan used to tell me two things. First, she didn't have anything to wear to any event we were going to - (so she wouldn't have even shown up here tonight). And secondly, that she didn't have any other friends. Well, I can see from this standing room only crowd, that she was wrong. And I also can feel that she is here with us.

I met Susan when I began working with her sister Teresa 15 years ago. When Teresa became my friend, I got Susan as part of the deal. Eventually - I got the whole family.

We had a little group who loved to get together and scrapbook. Some of us formed a little Wednesday Night Girls Night Out group. We shared secrets and laughter and bonded together in ways that only women could.

After years of friendship, we did what women do sometimes - we forgot to value each other. We let our own "selves" get in the way of our precious friendship. We did the unthinkable - we stopped being friends. It was sudden and hurtful and for three years - there was no healing.

We all moved forward, made some new friends and grew up a little perhaps. One fortunate day, we were able to reconcile. It was scary - but only for a minute. In that minute, we were able to offer the forgiveness and grace to each other that was offered to us by Jesus on the cross.

We never talked about they WHY of the break up - but we often talked about the relief we felt when forgiveness was sought and offered and accepted. It was a true Jesus moment. We often rejoiced in it.

That reconciliation was six years ago. The bond we've shared since is so much stronger than any bond we had in the past. While we were the same people, we had truly been changed. The love and respect we were able to give one another was so much more than before. It was almost like we weren't just friends - but more like sisters. Because we knew we would never be apart again.

Susan told me that she never stopped loving me during the years we were apart and I know it is true because I could see no evidence of it in her eyes. And I know it was true also because I never stopped loving her either.

That is who she was - maybe she would retreat when hurt - but so willing to love again. That was my friend Susan. I miss her. I miss her with all my heart. And she would want it that way. Maybe I will move on....but not yet. She needs to know letting go won't be easy. I didn't think I would have to lose her again.

And so I want to close with a scripture that reassures me that although it was not God's will for us to be apart all those years ago, He used that time to refine our friendship and our love for one another.

It is: Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to His purpose.

And I will live the rest of my life knowing that although I didn't first learn of God's love for me from Susan, I did experience God's love for me through Susan.

And while I don't know the why of it all right now, I will continue to believe that we are called according to His purpose.

Rest well - and dance with Jesus daily - my friend.

Figure it out Friday

I kept thinking about my table scape and how I needed to get it done....

I really didn't have anything else on hand....so I thought I could wrap up some little boxes to go under the trees. So Merry Christmas - you are getting Scotch Tape and wooden blocks.

Then I thought I would need some glittery stuff to throw on the table. I rummaged and rummaged and found a bunch of confetti. I sure hope this all works out....or at least that the lights will be low.

Tiny Tree Thursday

This is part of my Christmas table scape for our Sunday School Christmas party on Saturday. I made two of these (remember folding up Reader's Digests when you were a kid?) by folding up some magazines I had laying around. I planned to make LOTS of them - but lots turned into two.

Two magazines, white spray paint, silver glitter spray paint, little ornaments and snowflakes, some ribbon and silver wire stuff later I think I am pleased.

My whole theme is retro - so maybe we will have some fun discussion at the table about Christmas memories. I hope so anyway.

I will post a picture of the finished table this weekend. See ya then.

Tidy It Up Tuesday

Not sure if you can tell, but this is a clipboard. A friend of mine asked me to make it for a friend of hers. And I put it off. So while tidying up my studio a bit, I came across it. And of course the guilt that is associated with procrastination.....

But I will see her tomorrow night and all will be forgiven. I used some old papers I had on hand. A little bit of green and purple and a bunch of yellow. The final recipient teaches in a preschool and her class is the Sunshine Group.

My first day back to work was fantastic. I got so many hugs and well wishes today. And I had no problem just fitting right back into the work flow. Worked 8 hours, came home and all seems right with the world.

I am also working on a table scape for our Sunday School party this Saturday. It is very retro and fun. I will take a picture and post when I get it all set up this weekend.

Mixed Emotions Monday

I am off to deliver this to the Crafty Scrapper. Tim Holtz' new Configurations products just spoke to my kitchy side.

Not sure why I was drawn to the purple....but I do think it turned out nicely. Of course, by the end of the project I was covered in glue, paint, glitter and beads. Oh my.

Mixed Emotions? I will be returning to my job tomorrow at CBS Radio. It has become my norm to NOT go to work for these three months. So I have mixed emotions about it all. I will be happy to get back to the job I love and to see all the people with whom I've grown close after 10 years. But getting up early....not sure I am looking forward to that. I will also miss being able to schedule my own time. Especially my grandbaby time! But now it is time to go back....and so I shall.

It's Looking Forward Friday

Thanksgiving 2010 is now officially behind us. As full as I was from dinner, I managed to run by Michael's and catch their 30% off sale. Not sure what I thought I needed, but I did buy a few things.

I bought this very shabby open backed frame. I didn't have to do a thing to it except attach my wall hanging to the frame and hang it up in my new shabby chic guestroom.

Even though the wall color looks a bit different on the inside of the frame, it isn't. This is just an open frame on the wall. And I love it. This wall hanging was a kit from Creative Escape. I didn't get to go...but I did snag a kit. When I first put up the wall hanging, it just didn't have enough presence. Thus the frame.

I am still on the look out for a small pink chair for that room. I am sure I will find it if I just keep looking. Just have to look in the right place I think.

So now it's time to look forward to Christmas. Plenty to do. Plenty of blessings heading our way. Hope that's the case for you too. So I'm sending happy thoughts your way. Susie

Well, What DaYa Know Wednesday

Yesterday I took a class from Dee Dee at the Crafty Scrapper. I made the CUTEST Christmas banner for my mantel. This is not it. THIS is a banner I have been struggling with for fall. But after taking Dee Dee's class, I was so inspired, that I was able to finish it and I love the end result.

So just in time for Thanksgiving my banner completes my fall display in the living room. Soon enough it will be replaced by my new Christmas banner. But I should leave it up for a week I think so we can enjoy it.

The banner is a Maya Road base, Making Memories and Tim Holtz papers and then a bit of this and that added to finish it off.

In a year that we have had nearly unbearable loss and suffered such grief, we are still thankful. We know that our God is in control and we continue to trust and honor Him. We hope that during this Thanksgiving season your family will be well and that your holidays filled with joy.

It's Fabulous Friday

I'm not sure it started out all that fabulous.....I HAD to clean up my studio before I could get my products kitted up for my class at the Crafty Scrapper tomorrow.

So after quite a few hours of putting away, throwing away and then attempting to clean my studio, I was ready to start getting my kits ready. It always takes me longer to make kits than I originally think it will. But I've learned that the better organized each kit is, the smoother the class goes. So I put a lot of energy into making my kits and instructions the best they can be. Twelve kits later and I'm packed and ready to go.

So off the the Crafty Scrapper to teach tomorrow. FABULOUS!

It's Totally Tired of Driving Thursday

I left my house at 9:30 this morning. I returned at 6:30 this evening. During those 9 hours, I drove to or through: Dallas, Grand Prairie, Arlington, Euless, Bedford, Hurst, Fort Worth, Watauga, Keller, Midlothian, Waxahachie, Cedar Hill and then back to Dallas. I even hit some of the cities twice.

I had really great visits with people in some of those cities (you know who you are).....but I am truly tired of driving. I actually feel like I am STILL driving....but seriously hope I am not.

So here is a picture of a pendant I made last night for one of my friends in one of those cities. I told her the diamond is not real.....I sure hope I'm right about that.

Off to sit in my chair and rest a while. All that travel may have taken my creative spirit right out of me....not sure. But, if so, tomorrow is another day.

It's Blowin' in the Wind Wednesday

Where did this day go? Well, it literally BLEW by. I had a meeting at CBS Radio today, then went to the doctor. From there I journeyed to pick up the bed rails for a new (antique) bed that I am buying, then to the AT&T store (my phone car charger died), to Michael's to get spray paint so Randall can finish up a project for me and then to Girls' Night Out.

When I finally got home, I finished up this project that I've been working on for months. If I found myself watching a movie or television, I would thread buttons. LOTS and LOTS of buttons. I finally got the last 20 or so threaded and glued on tonight. This thick canvas has a cute niche in it. Not sure if you can see it, but it says LOVE IS THE KEY on a little banner on top of the key.

There are two back stories for this project. The first one was from the July 4th weekend. Randall and I were at an antique store in East Texas. He said he bought some tools, but when he handed me the package and told me to look at the tools, it was really 2 huge bags of vintage buttons. I love vintage buttons and have a huge jar that I put them in. So I really wanted to do something that honored his sweet gift.

Which leads to the second back story. I can't claim the design of my project as my own. I saw this done by a very talented artist named Jennifer McGuire. Her canvas was done for a fundraiser for Susan G. Koman. I knew the moment I saw it that I would have to do a version of it for my new shabby chic guestroom. I need to look for a small shelf to put below it and then I will hang it up and show it to Randall. If you want to see pictures of all of the fundraiser canvases, they are on the blog at Ten Seconds Studio. I love the colors she used. But I changed to soft pastel buttons for mine. I also dry brushed my canvas a soft pink color.

So that's my story for a windy Wednesday. I have three appointments to keep tomorrow, but I'll be back if I can get another project finished.

It's Complete A Task Tuesday

Last night when I went to bed, this was going to be Complete Three Tasks Tuesday...but I got a little sidetracked today. That precious grandson, Caleb was just calling my name. And what kind of grandma could ignore that?

So I completed one task. These little chipboard gingerbread men are strung together with mini thread spools between each man. The ties on the ends are red gingham ribbon. Each fellow is covered front and back and of course edged in Cinnamon Stickles. When I gave this to Caleb, he put his little finger on each letter as I spelled his name. Can you say melted heart?

My other two projects are in various stages of completeness. If I got off the computer, I could probably finish one of them. Instead, here is a picture of my bleached trees and wreaths. I couldn't believe how quickly the bleach worked. There is a pink cast to the picture, but they really are white. Right now they don't look all that pretty, but once dipped in some white and silver glitter - oh yeah - then they will be out of this world gorgeous.

I'll be back tomorrow. I have some appointments that will pull me away from home the next two days, but I will make time to post something wonderful.

It's No Make Up Monday

Well here it is - No Make Up Monday. But even on No Make Up Monday, I must have eyebrows and eyeliner. But that's it. Not going anywhere - not expecting anyone. Just staying holed up in my studio today. I have lots of projects I am working on - and many more in my head needing to come out.

So I need white trees for one of those "in my head" projects. But all I could find at Hobby Lobby was the green variety. I saw SOMEWHERE that you could just bleach them. The longer they stay in the bleach, the whiter they get. So I am going to give it a try.

I don't actually HAVE any bleach on hand. So my experiment won't begin until tomorrow when I get some bleach at the store....but I am ready. And when I have my white trees - I'll let you know.

It's Surprises from the Stash Saturday

Here it is Saturday night and all is quiet.....and sorta messy in my studio. I decided to make a fun pendant from stuff in my stash. Nothing new. Just stuff that's been here for a while.

So this is what I used:

2 Tim Holtz Keys
2 Tim Holtz Sprocket Gears
1 Prima Flower (had to make a hole in the center)
1 Tim Holtz Ball Chain Necklace
1 Tim Holtz Swivel Clasp
1 Making Memories brad
1 Misc. Bauble
Jump Rings

If you have about 10 minutes, you can build one of these too. It is so fast and easy, you will probably want to make some for Christmas gifts this year.

1. Starting with the brad, attach the two sprocket gears, then the flower, then the swivel clasp. Close the brad on the back. At the very end of my project, I dabbed a bit of E6000 glue over the brad ends and then put a tiny bit of felt over that.

2. Using jump rings attach the two keys and the bauble. I didn't have the color bauble I wanted, so I dyed a clear one using Butterscotch Alcohol Ink. I just put the bauble in a little dish and squirted a few drops of ink on it. VOILA. But a clear one would have worked just as well most likely.

3. I used 2 jump rings at the top of my sprocket to attach the pendant to the chain. One would have worked - I just decided to use 2.

So there you are. 10 minutes. If you don't use the flower or dye the bauble, I think you can put this together in 5-7 minutes. Give it a try! And if you need to buy some of these supplies, be sure to visit The Crafty Scrapper.

I just happen to be working on a project tonight that is not using a new flower technique, but instead using up some old flowers that I really thought I would never end up using. But they made the perfect bird wings. I have a bunch of these done - but I thought this was the prettiest.

4th of July Magic Wands?

I have been in the July 4th mood for a while now. It is my favorite holiday - so decorating for it makes me happy.

Lisa M. Pace is my current go to girl for ideas...and she has made some adorable magic wands. So I decided that I too should make some. I have 3 done and have 12 to go. I am giving them to my peeps at work next week along with Old Navy t-shirts.

My friend Susan and I have turned this crazy little idea into a full blown holiday celebration. We are having cupcakes and a luncheon too. She will be doing her crepe paper decorating magic for us. And I will be pulling out lots of decorations to make it all super fun.

Paperclipping Festival

I wanted to share a fun site with you today. If you don't know about Paperclipping, you need to explore the site. It is paperclipping.com. Noell Hyman has video tutorials as well as a weekly podcast and a weekly live show. She and her husband Izzy offer a fantastic design-inspiration website that I just adore. I have been a Paperclipping premium member for quite awhile and I encourage you to check it out too.

On June 22nd, Noell is having a fun Paper Clipping Festival, so I wanted to participate. We had to pick one of her video tutorials that inspired us and then share a related project on our blogs. The episode that really inspired me was about using older products because often my products BECOME old while I take care of projects I do that have deadlines!

This first layout is a prime example. Four of us went on a trip and I determined that I would do a layout to give to each of my gals to remind them of all the fun we had. So I eventually got them all done and given away. Of course I wanted one too – but the paper and the picture sat on my table – and sat and sat and sat. By the time I got around to doing a version for myself, the product was surely off the shelves. For their layouts, I focused on our trip – but for mine, I decided to focus on our friendship and the beauty of it. Once I found the quote that said LIFE IS FULL OF BEAUTY, I knew I could add in some older Prima flowers and a then I found the bird sticker (no telling how old that is!) All of that supported the BEAUTY theme. Even though the product was new and wonderful when I did the first three layouts, I was able to find the charm in the products once they became older. It even freed me up to add in some even OLDER product. I think it all worked and even allowed me to look at our photo and tell a totally different story about us.

This second example was just a quick little wall hanging that actually mixes old and new products. The background paper is at least five years old and the large flowers were from a few years ago. I just kept layering them until I had a newer looking “fluffy” flower base. Once I had my older products down, I added in the newest and greatest Tim Holtz products and some brand new Prima flowers and Maya Road goodies. I think the mix was a fun way to use up some older products.

Randall is having another birthday

When I got home from Girls' Night Out, I got right to work on Randall's card.

Everything on this card was in a kit I got from The Treasure Box Club. It was from the Feb 2010 kit.

I don't think you can tell, but I placed the main image on chipboard and then cut it out. I applied it to the background after inking the edges.

The striped piece is also on chipboard. I love the little metal embellishments.

Home Depot card to be inserted and then I just need to wrap his other gift and seal it all with a kiss.

Some Vintage Fun (thank you Lisa M. Pace

So I have fallen in love (again) with all things vintage. Lisa M Pace's new book, Delight in the Details has been my constant companion since I first bought it.

Vintage flowers from a garage sale, an earring from Thrift Town, an eyeglasses chain, lace, some Tim Holtz stuff and a few stamps. If I hadn't given it away, I would have just kept staring at it. I just love it.

I gave this to my friend at work who is very creative. She said she would put it in her sewing room. I just love that!

Just a Fun Little Project

I spent some of today working on a fun little project. It will end up at Stolen Moments Inn as a banner on the fireplace mantel.

These are my Springtime church ladies. I think they are dressed up enough to go anywhere, but I know for sure that they are ready for Easter Sunday.

The best part of my project is that I did not buy a single new item to make this. I love using up product I already own!

Moxie Fab World Olympics of Stamping

What a fun contest! So here is a thank you card that is going to a friend who gave me a subscription to Paper Crafts Magazine for my birthday this week. She is quite the crafter herself, although she tells me she is a newbie. But she sews up a storm and I've seen some of her stamping projects and they are great as well.

The stamped images on this thank you card are from Paper Trey Ink as are the vintage buttons. The papers are from Websters Pages. I used a Martha Stewart border punch and also Spellbinder dies. I am not sure if you can tell, but some of the buttons in the jar (all colored with Copic markers) have a little bit of Stickles for just a bit of glam. I lifted the main image with three layers of chipboard circles underneath.

SOOOOO glad the work week is over. I think my full time job is getting in the way of my part time fun.

The background of this tag is just one corner of one piece of really cute paper. Then I just started adding things that were in my stash.

Probably the OLDEST item on this page is a rubbery Rob & Bob picture frame. I don't even know where I got it! But isn't that the fun part of creating - the surprise of it all!

Good Morning Friday! (SNOWY-ICY FRIDAY)

ok. I know I say THIS is my favorite every couple of days....but really I think this could be it.

The dress form is from a package of Thickers and is covered in Red Distress Stickles. The letters are also Thickers.

The reason there are flowers along the bottom is that I messed up the base of the dress form. But I think they look cute!

Good Morning Day 11.

This day promises to be a wintry one for sure. About 5 or 6 years ago, we had a really snowy February 14th. We all threw snowballs and had a great time with our neighbors.

This tag is just a fun pocket tag which I filled with vintage artwork from my stash. The pocket is made from 2 really large photo corners.

Today I dedicate this tag to our little grandson Caleb. I think he is my reward. He thinks I am the best grandma ever. We adore each other.

Good Morning Day 9!

This tag base started out as a Halloween Bingo Card. But with a little bit of careful disguising, it is now fit for all the Valentine Love it can hold.

I had the grungeboard hinges left over from another project. At first they were silver, but a little bit of paint dauber later, they were sparkling gold.

I just love the 3-d embellishment in the center of the tag and the sparkling ribbon at the bottom.

I am a total sucker for bling!

This tag started out with some Tim Holtz ideas and just kinda took on a life of its own. This COULD be one of my favorites!

Using stuff that I've owned forever was fun. I can't even imagine how old those scrabble tiles are! I stamped on them with a swirl stamp just to make them look a little bit more dressed up.

I also thought the flower in the middle of the clock was a fun idea.

Day 6 is here. I like this day because it happens to be a Saturday. And this is a good Saturday after a stressful week. Day 6 is good.

I had to add a little bit of Tim Holtz love to this tag - the the hitch fastener, chain and round charm all belong to his line. The flowers are Prima and I love them because you can dye them or stamp on them or just leave them pristine white like I did here.

The background color is really a thick coating of all the red Distress Inks I could find. Also - I used paint for the swirl and a resist technique.

OOO LA LA. Day 2 is here already.

I started with some Making Memories papers and some Tim Holtz Fragments and stamps and just went from there. This COULD be my favorite tag - one that started without much of a plan.

14 Tags of Valentine's Day DAY 1

I was so inspired by Tim Holtz and his 12 Days of Christmas Tags that I got the crazy notion that I needed to design 14 tag for Valentine's Day.

After all, my friend Rebecca and I did all 12 Christmas tags this year and then went back and did the 24 from the last TWO years. Can you say THAT'S A BUNCH OF TAGS!

So here is Day 1.

The tags are not technique or product specific. I just bought some fun things from The Crafty Scrapper and added lots of embellishments that I've had in my stash.

And because The Crafty Scrapper is just SO cool, they are having a little contest of their own based on my idea and your creativity.

I just had to share this picture with you. I can't believe how much Caleb is growing. He is 4.5 months now and just gets cuter every day!

Shameless Grandma post!

Caleb is loving life. He hasn't quite mastered sleeping through the night, but he's been here less than a month....I am sure he will catch on soon.

The Steeles are coming over tomorrow and I can't wait to get my weekly kisses in.

Happy Valentine's Day (almost)

My friend Jamye gave me a great idea. She said she was going to do a digital layout and frame it for her husband for Valentine's Day. Oooo-yummy. Great idea! So I digi-lifted it from her.

I didn't start until 11:30 tonight, so I used a wonderful QuickPage I already had and embellished it just a bit. Starting from scratch just seemed too daunting this late at night.

Randall doesn't read my blog, so it will still be a surprise 2 days from now.

Then I started thinking that the only people who see my framed layouts are people who stay at Stolen Moments Inn - so I decided to put them on a Picasa album and everyone can see them to the right of this post now. I hope you enjoy them if you take a peek.

Boys Night In

My daughter sent me this picture tonight. When she walked into her bedroom, this is what she saw. I'd say Caleb looks right at home after being here just two weeks.

This little angel is lighting up our lives daily. His disposition is sweet and he is just so cuddly. If I could add another 5 or 6 hours to my day, I would spend them just holding him in my arms.

Caleb is finally here

We certainly are pleased to announce the arrival of our newest grandbaby. Caleb Alan Steele was born January 23, 2009 at 5:41 pm. He weighed in at 6lbs 13 oz and measured 18.5 inches long.

He is truly one sweet bundle of joy. Proud parents Merrick and Taylor think he is a keeper.

We have spend every moment we could this weekend gazing at this miracle and cuddling him every chance we could. All four grandparents agree that he is perfect and we can't wait for the spoiling to begin.

I have placed a Picasa slide show to the right on this blog. You can watch it here, or if you click on it, a larger version will appear.

I am certain our lives will never be the same and I am thrilled about it. He is one sweet boy. I am probably a bit biased though.

Fun News!

Just had to share with you...

I entered Paper Craft's World Card Making Day Contest last month. I submitted five cards - one in each category. On Thursday, I received a call that I had WON! Wow...I just couldn't believe it.

When the lady called me, I asked which card had won. She said it was called, "Go for It" in the birthday category. For the life of me, I couldn't remember what the card looked like! I even thought at one point that they had made a mistake and called the wrong person.

Fortunately, I had taken pictures of all my cards. So when I got home, I checked out the images and sure enough.....my "Go for It" card was real indeed.

They are sending me a prize package worth $250 and while THAT is super cool, the best part is that I will be published in the March/April issue of Paper Crafts. This is a first for me and I couldn't be happier about it.

I plan to submit more....and I will keep you posted if I ever get published again.

Blogger's Challenge Week 73

This week for our Blogger's Challenge we had to use Baja Breeze, Chocolate Chip, and white or vanilla. I don't have Baja Breeze, so I tried to use a color that is close to it.

The center image is PC Crafter clip art. I turn to it quite often when I am in a pinch or my stamping doesn't turn out well. That is what happened this time. I just couldn't get a stamped image to look right to me.

But I love the card - so all is well!

Blogger's Challenge Week 70

Well, I have certainly fallen behind. I have a million reasons (excuses), but I am at least trying to catch up now.

Last week's challenge was to post a gift item. This is an album I printed on Bazzill white cardstock and then adhered to old cds. Of course then I added ribbons and do dads to complete it.

I LOVE doing digital scrapbooking and plan to do all of our newest grandchild's books digitally. His mother will be more likely to want to store the thinner models. I still love paper scrapbooking. I guess I am bi-scraptual.

I am pleased to say that THIS week's post will be on time. I have it ready to roll at midnight Friday.

Our challenge this week was to use a water coloring technique. I chose to use the water spritzing technique where you color on the stamp and then spritz it with water. I just love how it makes a soft impression on watercolor paper.

I pieced the background and then used chipboard squares to raise the focal piece up so that it would be more dimensional.

Next time I need a feminine birthday card, I am good to go.

Blogger's Challenge Week 64

Our challenge this week was to use designer paper. Even though the newest paper is absolutely wonderful, I still just love this set from 2 (?) years ago.

I am striving to create fewer scraps, so once I cut into the full sheet of paper, I made as many cards as I could. And I think I love them ALL.

I am also trying to use supplies that are sitting out on my desk when I start creating. Obviously that is not always practical, but these little flowers have been in a tiny pile on my desk ever since I unpacked from CKU-Provo and I am totally in love with them. And they were so perfect for these cards.

Announcing Caleb Alan Steele

Today we found out what our newest grandson Caleb will look like. The sonogram confirmed that indeed Caleb would make his entrance into this world the first week in February.

I can hardly wait. My heart is so full of love for this baby already. If I feel this way now, I am not sure how much more I could possibly love him.

I AM sure of this - my days of pink paper and dainty flower accents will be coming to an abrupt halt early next year! Come on team BLUE. Let's go!!

All Dressed Up....

Yes - now I have two ATG guns. One for at home and one just for "scrapbooking out". I had the most fun decorating my "Sunday best" ATG gun. Don't you LOVE it?

I haven't shown it to my "at home" gun yet. It would be so sad. So yellow. So plain.

My friend Melinda shared this great website with me and that is where I found my fancy ATG gun. It is called Albums and Answers. The owner Sue is a total sweetie. She has all sorts of colored guns and I had a hard time deciding which one to get. But I am totally satisfied with my apple green one.

Just had to share. Totally psyched and can't wait to crop among friends this weekend.

Blogger's Challenge Week 63

This challenge was hard for me because I don't have any of the new Stampin Up colors we were suppose to use. So I did the best I could matching them up with my Copic markers and patterned papers.

The baby album I promised to show you

Here it is. The baby album I promised to show you. I just love this album, but more than that, I love that my neighbor is a scrapbooker, so she will know what to do to get those precious pictures in this book.

The album itself is a wooden scrapbook and all of the paper is Crate Paper. Love that texture! I went crazy buying pink, purple and green embellishments, but everything was just so darn cute.

I can't wait to give this gift to Jennifer and Collin (and baby Abby) on Sunday.

Blogger's Challenge Week 62

Labor Day is right around the corner. Patriotic or (ouch) L-A-B-O- R? Which should I choose? I went for the baby theme.

I have created a precious baby album to give to my neighbor whose baby was born a few weeks ago. This is the card that will accompany the gift. Both the album and the card are made from Crate Paper, which I love because of its texture.

I will post pictures of the album this weekend. I had planned to have already given the gift, but an auto accident last week kind of slowed down my life a little. I started PT today, so my plan is to be back to normal soon.

This week's challenge was to make a birthday card. Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy! So here it is. This card is for a special one year old. I think the image is adorable.

I have been absent from Blogger's Challenge for a few weeks. I went to CKU Provo and WOWZERS I thought getting ready was hard - but a week there was just exhausting. WONDERFUL, but exhausting!

Christmas in July was our challenge and I am totally in love with this idea! I usually start my Christmas cards by now...but this year I am a bit behind. So it was fun for me to get myself in the mood to at least start THINKING about this year's Christmas card design.

We have had an eventful few weeks with our son and daughter in law here for a visit from Korea. We took them to the airport today and as I type, they are about an hour from landing back home in Korea. Randall and I both cried when we left the airport. It is hard to say goodbye to loved ones - especially after such a wonderful two weeks together.

So my card is a bit late - but I offer a Merry Christmas in July to go along with it.

Blogger's Challenge Week #56

This week our challenge was to use a combination of 4 Stampin Up colors (2 of which I did not have). So I waited to see a few other gals' submissions and tried my best to recreate the feel of all of the assigned colors.

I truly enjoyed making this card. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my new Sizzix die that makes this card. I just got it in the mail a few days ago and have been dying to use it. The stamp is one that I got at a Copics class in Ft. Worth. Jen DeMuro was the teacher and she is awesome. I rarely win anything - but I won this stamp!

I didn't have the correct color of tiny flowers, but I had plenty of white ones, so I used PaperTrey Ink's Aqua Mist reinker and soaked the flowers until I got the correct color saturation. I have done that before when I needed deep red flowers. Stampin Up reinkers did the trick that time.

Oh - I miss my vacation!

I did a quick layout tonight that could sit on my desktop for a while. It took about five minutes because it is all digital.

I just love this picture of Randall. For him, all trips are about the landmarks and what he can see that is NOT like Texas. Oh - Seattle is NOT like Texas at all !

Blogger's Challenge Week #55

This week our challenge was to use bugs in our layout. I have some really fun clip art that I thought would work. First I made some background paper and printed it onto Bazzill white cardstock and then I printed the same image, but larger for the focal point.

What a quick and easy way to get a card done! I use this trick when I have multiples to make and would recommend it to anyone who gets in a time crunch. And who out there doesn't every once in a while?

Luggage Tags

Just wanted to share a project I did for some of us who went on the Alaska cruise last month.

If you have ever been on a cruise, you know that at the end of your trip, your luggage sits in a sea of other luggage that looks JUST LIKE YOURS. So I made luggage tags for four of the families who cruised to Alaska. I was surprised at how quickly we all found our luggage when it was time to leave the ship.

Oh how I miss that ship! No one here cleans my room, makes my bed or serves me dinner on fine china!

I plan to make some even fancier tags for my upcoming trip to Utah with my friend Rebecca. CKU here we come!

This week our challenge was to use pink, turquoise and green. I wasn't wild about the combination at first, but after I finished my card, I think I like it. I decided to make her outfit into a formal instead of a top and pants. The best part of this project is that I have a sparkly turquoise gown JUST like the one in the picture. I wore it on our first cruise. And if I remember correctly, I ate ice cream while I was wearing it! Oh - the best scenario ever!

And as I finish up packing for our upcoming cruise, I must say, I DO feel like I have it all!

This week's challenge was to use black and white. And I TRIED not to throw in another color...but alas, it needed some pink chalk.

I love everything about this card. The paper (a scrap I had), the stamp, the Stickles and the Spellbinders 3-d butterfly.

I went to the Great American Scrapbook Convention today and could have just stayed the whole time in the Spellbinders booth. I truly WANT IT ALL.

May Blog Hop Score Galore !

Here is my card for the May Blog Hop. The horizontal score line did not show up well in the scan, but I promise the line is there. There is a four section grid housing the cute baby onesies.

My dear friend Ginger just got a brand new granddaughter and this card is already on its way to her.

In case you are wondering about the scalloped mat, there really isn't a scalloped rectangle die just the right size so I pieced together two long Nestability rectangles to make the mat. Worked like a charm.

Copic Pens - LOVE 'em

Here is my little Copic pen notebook. I carry a spreadsheet with me so that I don't duplicate what I already have when I am shopping. But at home, when I am using my pens, I search for just the right color. NOW, I can see the colors I have right here in my little book. I loved making it and even more...I loved finishing it today.

I am certainly no expert in using these pens. As a matter of fact, my friend Melinda and I are going to take a class in a few weeks on how to use them. I am super excited to get some real direction after months of trial and error.

Trying my hand at digital scrapbooking

I am trying to learn Photoshop Elements 6.0. And it is a steep learning curve for me.

But I am persevering. I created this layout focusing on the bedrooms at Stolen Moments Inn. x

It is simple, but it took me forever to accomplish because I am a total newbie at this program and am trying to learn as I go. I have to get some of the basics under my belt because I am taking a digital album track at CKU in Utah this summer. I'll be lost if I don't know the program fairly well.

A Quick Card for a Dear Friend

She worked harder than anyone I know to earn this degree. Full time employee, wife and mom.....and student as well. Just tires me out to think about it.

National Scrapbook Day Fun

I was so excited to be asked to join a group at the Arlington YMCA for National Scrapbooking Day. We had the best time together. And I made some new friends too.

They asked me to do a make and take for the group and I just loved what I was able to share with them. This is just a Dollar Store frame, some paper, stamps, glitter and flowers. But I think it packs a real punch.

The most rewarding part was hearing someone say, "Oh, I can see myself making more of these for gifts". That means she was inspired and that always makes me happy.

What Happens at Nana's

I made this framed picture for a gal at my office. It is now on its way to her mom's house for Mother's Day.

I have known this little boy since before he even popped into this world. Seven years later - he is just as adorable as ever. He is one lucky boy to have such a fantastic grandmother.

I am thankful for my mother even though she didn't get to spend much time with my children when they were young. We have lived two states away for most of my adult life. But I know she will always be there for me and for my family.

Canvas - Oh I LOVE canvas

This is my version of an 8x8 canvas that Sheri at the Crafty Scrapper asked each member of the design team to create.

I didn't have a picture (photo) of me that I wanted to use, so I used words to create a picture of who I am.

Papertrey Ink April Blog Hop Happening Tonight!

This is just so much fun. The real party begins at 8pm EST tonight at Paper Trey Ink. But you can start here by taking a peak at my submission.

When I first read this month's challenge, I couldn't wait to do my project! We were to use small pieces of the Father Knows Best patterned paper from PTI.

I knew immediately what I would do. After Easter, lots of metal baskets went on sale for 80% off at Target. I snagged a few myself. The one I used for my spring birthday basket was for a little boy - covered in basketballs.

But now, it is covered in BEAUTIFUL papers and filled with products from PTI and some coordinating accents too. I used my Nestabilities to cut all of the patterned paper circles and cardstock scalloped circles, then my Xyron to attach them all securely. A few flowers, Stickles, PTI stamps and my project was nearly complete. I just needed to create a birthday tag and fabric and ribbon ties for the handle.

I just love this month's colors. SO springy and lively. Here is the completed spring birthday basket using papers from the Father Knows Best collection:

This week our challenge was to use the layout on page sixty-five of the Stampin' Up catalog. I LOVE long cards. This one was easy for me.

Almost everything I needed for this card was laying out on my desk wanting to be used and I am pleased with the result. So many people have blessed my life...I may have to make more of these to send.

Blogger's Challenge Week #40

Forty weeks of Blogger's Challenge. Woo Hoo! This really is a fun group and I hope you are able to take the time most weeks to view the other girls' submissions. I know we are all busy - but truly their work is so inspiring - it is worth it for sure.

This week our challenge was "SPRING FLOWERS". I saw a tutorial a while back on a paper folding technique called the dahlia fold, so I thought I would try it. I love how it turned out. I don't think I would like to make TOO many of these flowers, but for a special card or page embellishment, one at a time is completely do-able.

I don't buy too much Creative Memories product, but I did manage to fall in love with some of their recent papers. This is from one of their paper packs that found its way into my house. How DOES that happen?

This is my completed card using our challenge (use ribbon as a focal point, not just an embellishment). I loved making this card. The free flowing ribbon skirt is just so feminine.

I have posted below in photo format the steps to complete this easy (but looks difficult) card.

I was just about to go to bed....

I had just finished cleaning up after a project and thought it would be a good time to go to bed....when I remembered that I had three new Bellas and also a new set of Copic Glitter Pens.

So I made this card for a friend of mine. We work together and I just found out a few weeks ago that she is a fantastic seamstress. So this Bella is perfect for her!

I don't think you can see any of the glitter pen work - but the buttons on her shirt, the flowers on the fabric and her scissors are all a bit sparkly. The card looks better in person. Not sure why it didn't scan as well as usual.

Ok - off to bed for real before Randall wakes up to go to work!

Something New and Fun from Paper Trey Ink

Once per month PTI will have a blog-hop. Tuesday (March 25th) is the first one. I have my project ready to post. It starts at 8pm EST...so come on back Tuesday starting at eight and hop on some blogs and be prepared to see some inspiring work. Blogger's Challenge Week #39

This week's Blogger's Challenge was to use Chocolate Chip, Real Red, Blue Bayou and Soft Sky .

I thought this challenge was a bit difficult - but mostly because I didn't start it until after midnight. Once I knew I had all the colors covered, I added a background of teal and it made the card come alive. So maybe I cheated a bit by adding a fifth color - but it really works for this card, so I am ok with it.

Internet Baby !!!

Woo Hoo ! We are getting hooked up for the Internet at Stolen Moments Inn this week. Not dial up either - satellite! Right after our equipment is installed, our friend Will Coherd will be dropping by to make us wireless. WOWZERS!

That means people can bring their laptops and connect to the Internet or they can connect on the computer we provide at the Inn.

I see so many possibilities for our gals - uploading pictures, downloading digital papers and embellishments, checking emails, ordering fun scrapbooking items, accessing on-line ideas.

Even though satellite is not the best option (if you have options - which rural locations often don't) but in a small town like Maypearl, it is still pretty darn good!

So yea for us! We are super excited.

Week #38 Blogger's Challenge

Can you believe I am actually posting early? This week we had to make a birthday card. Easy assignment for sure.

I am totally hooked on PaperTreyInk right now, so that is what I chose. Believe it or not, the background of this card is really some softly printed PTI paper that I have stamped over with only four stamps. Three on the top and one on the bottom.

I think it looks like custom printed paper. Oh - I guess it is now!

When I started to clean up my cropping area, I remembered that I wanted to try my new Fiskars finger exacto thingy. So I stamped this red flower and cut it out. OK - I like this! Then I had to do something with it and I had this fun paper from Target out - so I made another birthday card.

Oh - but when I look around and see the mess I've created while creating tonight! Oh well, tomorrow is another day....

Blogger's Challenge Week #37

Our challenge this week was to create a card that was NOT a rectangle. I was at a retreat with some of my favorite gal pals this weekend, so my card is a bit late.

I am not quite sure how my time just flies by - but it does. So here is a little birdie card to signify the flight of my time!

I think it is great that birds are "in" right now. This one is from Verve Visual and I just love it. So CUTE!

A couple of fun BRIGHT cards on a Saturday morning

Despite the fact that I had a list of things that need to get done, I sat down and starting playing with a new stamp set I got in the mail yesterday. It is a brand new set from Gel-a-Tins.

I saw this set on line from a post about CHA and knew I had to have it. Who could resist these funky flowers? One thing I love about them is that the stems can bend (they are acrylic), so you can make them blow in the wind or stand up tall.

I stamped them using black StazOn ink and then stamped the colored parts with Stampin' Up inks. I was just in the mood for something bright and cheerful. The dots are Raindrops from Cloud Nine. I hadn't used them in a long time - but they were perfect additions to my fun flowers.

When I started cleaning up (so I could get to my to-do list), I just couldn't resist making my scraps into another card. The only thing on this card that I had to add that wasn't already out on my table was the line of rub on cross stitches. I think my second card turned out just as cute. AND I didn't have any scraps to put away after this one.

Just as I was about to get to my to-do list, I got inspired to make just one more card. You can see it here.

And now, though it is well after the sun has set, my to-do list sits unfinished (and un-started). Luckily I am a night owl so it is about to get addressed. But I think a day of card making was what I really needed today. Plus that little nap I took.

Blogger's Challenge Week #36

This week our challenge was to use the layout on Page 44 of the Stampin' Up catalog. It is such a basic layout - so I was in heaven.

I think simple and clean layouts are the best for me. Just a little bit of spice - like the glitter pen stitching makes the card pop. Also, I thought it was fun to stamp over the yellow-green paper in the middle of the white cardstock. Just added some dimension.

Oh - all of the supplies (except the Chocolate Chip cardstock) are from PaperTreyInk. If you have never visited their site, you must take a moment to look. Their products are amazing and wonderful. Can you tell I am a fan?

Another card from scraps

I put the base of this card together last week from some scraps. Then I just left it out on my work table.

Tonight I just happened to use a new Sizzix die (the flourish) and I thought it would look nice on this card. I added just one jewel and off it goes into the mail.

Blogger's Challenge Week #35

This week's challenge was to use the Stampin' Up colors, Purely Pomegranate, Brilliant Blue and Old Olive. I don't have the Purely Pomegranate cardstock or inks, so I had to substitute Rose Red which was as close as I could get.

There really isn't anything I LIKE about this card - except that it is finished.

So on to next week's challenge!

Here is my Blogger's Challenge card for Week #34.

I haven't been able to participate in this challenge for a while - but I'm back now! I just love this week's challenge. It is based on the card on page 42 of the Stampin' Up Spring/Summer catalog.

I had stamped and colored this Bella a few months ago. Under that flower she is holding a martini - but I thought she should hold a flower instead and then the stamped greeting made sense!

I can't wait to get this card into the mail. Now I just need to figure out who needs to bloom.

Techno Stamper Challenge

A year ago, I never considered reading or writing a blog. Now I just can't get enough. I subscribe to some fantastic creative blogs and goodness knows - the talent these ladies display is unbelievable.

So I was reading this blog and I found that she has a Monday lunchtime sketch challenge. And this week's really caught my eye. So tonight, I went for it. I cannot tell you how many times this card nearly flew to the trashcan - but I think it knew where it was headed when finally it came together and I was pleased with it. I suppose since it says, "Happy Spring" it will just have to wait to be mailed in a month or so...but at least I completed the challenge.

The interesting thing about this card is that the border is made with a square punch. The punch is used on the diagonal and it makes this great pennant type border. Then I drew the vertical lines to define each pennant.

So there's my creativity for tonight!

One more card for today

When I returned from running my errands today, my blue, green and orange ink pads were right where I had left them.

I needed a get well card for one of my dearest galpals who is under the weather, so I looked on line for a simple design and pretty much copied it, using the supplies I already had out on the table.

I think my version turned out ok. It goes in the mail tomorrow and I hope my friend is actually all better by the time she opens her mailbox and sees it.

Can you tell that it is embossed too? This is my first attempt at embossing using Spellbinders dies. I like the effect and hope to perfect my embossing skills with some more practice.
